Can you resist???

We're sure you've noticed the new ad campaign from Nokia...the sign on the bus-stops, the ads on the telly asking you what you would do if you came across 'Luca's' phone? Would you a) respect his privacy or b) or would your curiousity end a lil kitty's life? LxEnts choose c) we don't care! Luca isn't real...this campaign has no chance! Until we decided to take a look, just to prove ourselves right of course! Now we are hooked!

There are three characters to choose from, Luca, Jade and Anna and you follow a storyline for each in 'real time'. The story is told through the medium of text messages, videos, voice-mails and MMS and there are even facebook links to look at! You have a certain amount of messages untouched (like a real phone) and the number decreases giving you that real sense of intruding on someone else's life! There are also options to look into their contacts list, check their calender, play their music tracks and of course check out the features of the phone and to connect to external websites such as facebook through the widgets option.

On the flip side, as 'harmless' as this campaign may seem, it also poses a number of questions with regards to the battle of privacy vs the 'big brother state'. Access to their 'calender' and sms stating meeting places tell you their whereabouts which allows you to keep track of said person, just like the real world. Is there more to this than meets the eye? Is this a clever ploy to make this socially acceptable? Are we being implicated as 'part of the problem' by taking part? Thoughts???
