KANO - THE GREATEST GRIME SHOW...THE VERDICT!
Day: Tuesday 30th September 2008 (One day after album release)
Place: Indig02 Arena
The Event: Kano's Album Launch in conjunction with RWD and Adizones aka 'The Greatest Grime Show on Earth!'
...and was it? The answer to that question is YES, YES, YES, A MILLION TIMES, YES!
Wanna know why?
Let's start with gaining entry. The only was to gain entry was via registration, competition ticket winner and an industry guestlist. No money exchanged hands for this event...100% free (unless you're that one person in the crowd that admitted to getting skanked! - more fool you! lol). LxEnts were industry (Thanks Mr Smith! - You are the man!) and the door staff handling the guest list were incredibly polite! Now you may be thinking, 'ummm care much?' but where does this happen anymore??? If you can answer me that then I'll delete that line, standard! It really does make a difference though...
Anyhoo moving on, unfortunately we missed first band of the eve, THE THIRST, as we were waiting for decades for a member of the LxEnts team that has absolutely no idea of how the factor of time works...
We spoke to the boys afterwards though, still buzzing from their performance, who assured us that despite being as far from 'grime' as classical music, the crowd were down for a lil rock in their life! If you ever get the chance check em' out! Go here. They are awesome!
Tinchy did his thang after the interval of dj's, dancers and a very poor attempt at open mic. 'Stryderman' went down a treat as did chick track 'Something About Your Smile'. This was followed by another very long 'interval' and then the lights went out and a video clip was projected onto the back of the stage portraying 'a day in the life of Kano' - Nice lil touch! Then the man, himself, graced the stage and went straight into '140 Grime Street' just to make it clear why we were there!
'The Greatest Grime Show On Earth' REALLY began when GHETTO came bounding onto the stage with an electrifying energy that hyped the entire crowd! You should have seen the moves he was bussing, they were serious! Oh wait! you can!
Ghetto, as far, as we are concerned is under-rated big time! He spits fire and his energy is crazy! We'll be pushing to see more of this guy! He set the bar and the following guests did not disappoint!!! Skepta, rocking a Ed Hardy dressing gown and matching Ed Hardy socks (it actually WAS a good look!), Wiley, Tinchy and the smooth vocals of Mikey J all brought their A game and raised the bar far, wide and beyond with regards to putting on a show for your audience!
Kano gave a more subdued performance in comparison to his collabo guests. Despite this, it was evident that K.A.N.O was back!, doing what he loved, making 'HIS' music. You could hear passion in every word, see determination in every step - He made his mark, he's here to stay! and we, at LxEnts, wouldn't have it any other way!
We are proud to have been a part of a musical historical moment! We did, indeed, attend 'The Greatest Grime Show on Earth' and we hope to see more where that came from!!
