After 5 years with Warner Music as Executive Vice President, a position given to him by former colleague at Def Jam and Current CEO of WMG Lyor Cohen, Kevin Liles has announced that he will be stepping down today- to pursue other interests in media, entertainment, and talent management.
Liles started his career with Def Jam in 1991 as an unpaid intern and by 1993 was head of Mid Atlantic Marketing. By 1998 he became President. Liles was responsible for the resurgence of Def Jam amidst the roll of the early and mid 90s that Death Row and Bad Boy had- by signings of the likes of DMX, Jay Z, Ludacris and deals with labels such as Ruff Ryders and Murder Inc.
“I am thankful for the opportunities that Edgar and Lyor have given me, most recently in entrusting me with driving the company's global artist services strategy, which is redefining the way labels and artists work together. My work here is now complete and I'm excited about the next chapter of my life." (Allhiphop.com)
He will continue to be a consultant for WMG as he pursues other entrepeneurial ventures.
