Giving Back Counts

A number of rappers, R&B singers and celebrities will gather in Atlanta tomorrow (October 1) for a special charity project to raise money for recent flood victims in the city.

Jermaine Dupri, Nelly and V-103 will present Atlanta Stand Up: Jermaine Dupri & Nelly Charity Celebrity Bowling Tournament.

The goal of the tournament is to raise funds for the victims of severe flooding in Atlanta, where 17 counties in the state have been disaster areas, making the region eligible for federal disaster assistance.

In addition to Jermaine Dupri and Nelly, rappers and artists like Outkast’s Big Boi, Polow Da Don, Nitty, Lil Ronnie, Bryan Michael Cox and T.I.’s Grand Hustle label will compete in the tournament, which will donate all proceeds to the flood victims.

Jermaine Dupri and Nelly’s Charity Celebrity Bowling Tournament takes place tomorrow at Red Carpet Lanes in Atlanta.

Hometown rappers Ludacris and T.I. have already donated $10,000 each with the Home Depot and Sam’s Club to help over 20,000 people impacted by the flooding, which has caused an estimated $61 million dollars in damages.

I had the pleasure of seeing this brother perform and he definitely gets my vote as a serious artist, not just rapper; He is a force to be reckon with, as well as a voice worthy of being heard, with work that must be supported. True Hip Hop fans, rather connoisseurs of music alike will not be disappointed with his product and brand. Currently he has a duet wit MC Lyte in Stores, "Salon Stories".

Murray and Cannibus have a friendship that began in 1995, production will feature The Beatminerz, Amadeus, Gordo, and Erick Sermon.

In a press interview for the album, both Murray and Cannibus had this to say:

“Essentially the name symbolizes underground and then you know gods with it. The aspect of where we been rhyming from since the inception of our careers, even though they happened at different times,” Canibus stated. “We mastered certain aspects of lyricism and hip-hop so and that’s how you but the gods there. Tate Modern - Pop Life: Art In A Material World

With the start of Black History Month on Thursday, here is one of the many events that LxEnts will keep you up-to-date with over this peiod of time.

The Tate Modern are recreating an exhibition titled 'Red, Black, Green, Red, White, Blue' which was banned in the USA for being 'racist' back in 1992. The exhibition is made up of poster images of significant black icons in the public eye and seeks to demonstrate the adversity's faced to get to the top.

The exhibition will be staged in an entire room and opens on 1 October until 17 January. For more details check the Tate Modern official website.

The Return of the R

I guess we can say that the rebirth of Hip Hop is upon us, ushered in by BP3 and Cuban II...I am loving where we are now, much needed...not to mention my man Ghostface's Ghostdini: wizard of Poetry in Emerald City out tommorrow Sept 29th..... Whats next you might ask, well I got something for you...reportedly the return of Rakim and his new album The Seventh Seal, which will be his third solo project, slated for November 17, ten years after the release of The Master.

Rakim says that the new album will be put out his own Ra Recordings with distribution from Tuscan Villa/SMC Recordings, with assistance from Universal. The new album is classic R, mixed with more up to date producing and features...Appearances are made by Busta Rhymes, Maino, Jadakiss, and Styles P..Production Credites are Needlz, Nottz, Jake One, Nick Wiz and Ty Fiffe. Reflecting on what is to come Rakim said this:

“When you’ve been blessed with a career like mine, you develop a deep relationship with the music,” Rakim told AllHipHop.com in a statement. “That love is recognized by the true heads that share it with you. Nas absent on BP 3 and Cuban II

When asked about the rumor that he was asked to be on both Raekwon and Jay Z's monumental albums, Blueprint III and Cuban Link II, and refused Nas replied:

"I love what Jay-Z's album, Raekwon's album are - my favorite rap albums. I think they have made Hip-Hop serious again and I'm just...I feel great about the whole world now because of those two albums"

This was an interview with Punchbowl Blog, an interview which you can tell Nas avoided the question at hand...He is right those two albums have re-energized Hip Hop, but both would have been way better with an appearance by Nasir...I question why he let us down and neglected his responsibility to be apart of the two biggest things to hit rap this year. I understand turmoil can get you sidetracked, and we all know that he has had his share- but why let a chance go by. There aint that much needed to be put into the Distant Relatives album he has coming with Damian Marley, which he insists will be put out this year. NAs also included that he was a candidate for the presidency of Def Jam- wonder why he was passed up? Opportunities just havent been on point for him lately huh.

"After having a great evening with my son and enjoying some fun twit chat, I decided to sign off and get some work done. However, a few hours later I was advised that I should check @aliciakeys twit page. I’ve never reached out to her on twitter before. I feel our issues are a lot more serious than a website conversation. Not to mention that I’ve reached out to her many times in the beginning of this whole thing, as any wife would do. Unfortunately, I never succeeded in getting a response. The 1st time I meet AK, my husband introduced us to each other at an event. ( I have no choice but to call him my husband, until he is not anymore) In the messages that I sent to her (AK), I made it very clear that on the contrary of what she might be hearing, I am still married to my husband, living with him and just had a child. Its been two years and I still have not received a response. What I do receive, is constant displays of selfishness and disconcern to me and my son.

I was a fan of AK’s last album, we were both signed to J Records and I always checked up on her projects. I sang her songs and admired her for creating Superwoman and Karma, I would never deny her, her talent. I believed in her until I found out she was possibly sleeping with my husband. The affair was denied by both, until it was finally admitted months later.

Already I can hear some of you saying ” why are u blaming her, You cant make someone leave their wife, You cant break something thats broken”. Well, my marriage was not broken, as far as I knew we were celebrating our sons birth and getting ready to celebrate our 5 year wedding anniversary . Call it blind love, whatever. I call it being a devoted wife.. As far as me blaming her and not blaming him, thats false. Me and my husband have worked out our differences. We are in a good place as people and as parents. I accept his choices and I am comfortable enough with myself to move on. I am so very blessed in many ways.

My concern with AK is no longer the fact that she assisted in destroying a family but that she has the audacity to make these selfish comments about love and wanting to be with someone, even after knowing their situation. How is this the same Superwoman that I sang out loud with in my truck? I ask myself sometimes.

If you are reading this Alicia, let me start by saying, you know what you did. You know the role you played and you know how you contributed to the ending of my marriage. You know that I asked you to step back and let me handle my family issues. Issues that you helped to create.

Im not saying everything was perfect all the time but no relationship is perfect. We made a vow to God and I believe you should have respected that, as a woman. I know you owe me or my son nothing but I just wish you would’ve handled things more carefully. I’m not judging you, I put you and the whole situation in the hands of God, the Higher Power. Just know that as a woman, I expected so much more from you. I never had intentions on reaching out to you this way but after reading your twits tonight, and the constant disregard, you left me no choice. I feel that after 1 and a half years of you hiding this affair and acting like it doesnt exist, that now is the time to confront it, since you talk so openly about it now.

This is not a publicity stunt, I dont have a record coming out. I just need to close this chapter in my life and that means confronting our issues. There is a small child involved. His dad loves him to death and he wants to spend more time with him but hes afraid because he knows we don’t have a relationship. This is my main concern. My son NEEDS his dad and I NEED to be comfortable with you. For him!

I know many will see my point and many will not be able to look into what’s real because they only want to see Alicia Keys the celebrity, not the human. This is not for the “people”, this is for you. Like I said I was left no choice but to reach out to you this way. By now, Im sure you want to find a balance in this as well.

I read your tweets tonight and I felt they were very insensitive. You have no idea how much pain I was caused because of this affair. Its baffling to me that you don’t understand what I might have gone through with this situation. I dont consider myself a victim anymore, Ive learned alot from this! I just ask you to try and be a bit more realistic and delicate to the situation, at least until my divorce is final. I felt me attending the party would have been a starting point for us, since you shook my hand after I offered it, but I suppose I was wrong.

If its so, that you and my husband are meant to be together, then God bless you both and I hope you never have to deal with what I did. I would not wish it on my worst enemy. If you two being together forever is the case, its more of a reason for us to get along, because I’m not going anywhere. Theres a child to be raised.

Scott Storch's Road to Redemption

Scott Storch has gone through a very public bankruptcy rift...rumor has it that he has lost some where in the range of 70 Mil due to reckless behavior and bad decision making..In his own words:

“"I was clubbing, drunk, and had more money than I knew what to do with,” Storch admitted. “We'd be at a club and I'd decide to take everyone to Las Vegas. Do more coke, f**k a bunch of girls. More recently Storch is trying to redeem his reputation in the industry, working with the likes of hitmakers Usher, Gucci Mane, and jennifer Hudson; wanting to show labels that is sound is still relevant and profitable.

NAshville, Tenn authorities are looking for a group of 4 women whom ripped off rappers Gucci Mane, Rick Ross, and Swagg teams' hotel rooms after a performance at the Municipal Auditorium; while in the lobby mingling tha ladies met the rappers, and doubled back around 2 in the A.M. gaining access to the rooms and coming off with thousands of dollars worth of jewelry. The incident was caught on tape, and semi-clearly shows the ladies; Authorities are confident that they will get the women and close the case.....see what happens.

Boosie hit with 2 years

I reported on this before, and it seems that the worst has come to pass for Lil Boosie, who yesterday was sentenced to two years in prison after pleading guilty to gun and marijuana possession charges; I guess some people have to find out the hard way that the law aint playing, and riding strapped and high is not the best move. When asked about everything in a nut shell Boosie replied, I’m just ready to get all of it behind me and get further on with my career,” Boosie said. “I plead guilty in my own best interest.”


It has been hard times grinding for Trill Ent. after the passing of Co-CEO Pimp C, it has been tribulation after tribulation.....Wish Boosie the best of luck, hold ur head up BAdazz.

It's The End Of The World As We Know It..

Ok, exaggeration much? but the departure of the last original remaining member of the Sugababes, Keisha Buchanan, has rocked the foundations of the popworld on a grand scale. Keisha was always a dead cert to fight til the end...so what went wrong?

To know where you're going, you've got to know where you've been...Let's take a brief look at the history of the 'babes' line up...

Having studied media and cultural studies at degree level, I was taught all about the manipulation of the media, the portrayal of only one side of a story beneficial only to cranking up the celebrity shelf life and the evil's of PR and bearing ALL of of this in mind something continues to niggle away at me...'what's wrong with this picture?'. All good scientific experiments have a sturdy hypothesis and mine is the following 'Why quit one of the most successful girlbands if the rumours are a fabrication?' There are a number of answers:

a) Keisha WAS the sole 'bully' of the group and jealous of being over-shadowed by Amelle and HAD to leave.

b) Keisha was part responsible for the 'bullying' (let's keep in mind there were 3 members and much as we love Heidi, she's not perfect!) but was made the scapegoat as these rumours had surfaced around her before so it was the easiest option to prove 'bullies' will be 'dealt with' as appropriate.

c) Sugababes management wanted to 're-vamp' the group and Keisha's departure was a product of an elaborate plan.

When taking each of these into account, I believe the majority would opt for option a) or b) because the world and it's chilhuahua love a good bitch, thrive on the misfortune of others and Keisha has been the only original member of the group left standing which poses a number of questions but I'm more inclined to go with option c). The wonderful world of the music industry is ever-changing but the only two aspects that remain constant throughout is formula's and IMAGE. The girl groups of today look like this:

Let's be honest, the latest releases from the Sugababes were far from setting the world alight and with girl groups like Girls Aloud supporting Coldplay on tour and The Saturdays hot on their heels, I'm sure a meeting was held in order to discuss and strategise the 'Rise of the 'babes'.

Conquering the US is a detrimental factor of true success and with girl groups in the US looking like this:

...this lady is the answer...

I'm just saying...isn't she more 'aesthetically pleasing' industry-wise???

According to most recent reports, the new trio are already state-side recording an album and shooting the next video. To put ALL of this in place after such a 'shock' departure has to be questioned. What do you also make of the fact that Keisha is still signed to Roc Nation despite the 'trouble' she has 'allegedly caused? Surely Roc Nation wouldn't condone such behaviour! As much as I never thought I'd see myself write the following, I have to admit to the fact that the face (Keisha's face, that is) didnt 'fit' and when your time's up, it's up! Unfortunately a large number of society will never think to question what's really going on and until that time, the above injustice's will continue to occur.

I think its a great lineup of nominees, but i really wanna question how do they go about selection of the winner, and what is the criteria of nomination. Personally I think there could be some upsets to liven up the repetitive award scene.

Best Video definitely has to be Kid Cudi, none of the others can match its creative imagery...He came out of the gate strong with that one...Anything else would be robbery.

Rookie of the year has to be Drake of course, he has taken the game by storm but dont sleep on Wale and Cudi, they have grinded hard for their respect, and both of them get a lot from me...

CD of the year- winner: can u really argue wit the success and trend setting of 808's and Heartbreak. Paper Trail and the recession were hard as well

Track of the Year: I have been to alot of parties and nothing gets it going like Every Girl; say what u want about the content, or D.O.A and the following that it has started BUT send this one to Young Moola baby.

Producer of the Year: Can anyone spell B-I-A-S- Ron Browz....he took autotune to a whole different level, and alot of dudes in Harlem are eating again.

Director of the Year: No one works harder than Anthony Mandler and B when they hookup...do ur research.

Lyricist of the Year: The Michael Jordan of rap, the big homey himself...Until he hangs it up..oh in case u didnt know- thats Jay Z

Best Live Performer: I have never been to one, but I have heard that Busta is ill...so this award his going to Mr. consistency
