VH1 HONORS THE SOUTH
VH1’s “VH1 Hip Hop Honors” will return for a seventh time this June with a tribute to Southern Hip-Hop music.
Rappers Jermaine Dupri, J. Prince of Rap-A-Lot Records, 2Live Crew and Luther “Luke” Campbell will be honored during the ceremonies, which will tape June 3rd.
All three men have established ground breaking Hip-Hop labels, which have sold tens of millions of records over the years.
Jermaine Dupri founded Atlanta’s So So Def imprint in 1993, J-Prince launched Rap-A-Lot in 1986 and Luke Campbell started Luke Skyywalker Records in 1985.
Both J Prince and Campbell helped break down the barriers of censorship in Hip-Hop music during the late 1980’s and early 1990’s.
Campbell’s case involving his usage of Roy Orbison’s “Pretty Woman” went all the way to the Supreme Court, where the rapper won a victory, when a judge ruled a parody of a record can qualify as “fair use.”
“I am happy for my fans, they have sent the people that run the VH1 Hip Hop Honors show emails for years now, asking why a person that started his own record label and went to the Supreme Court can’t get honored, so I am happy for them,” Campbell told AllHipHop.com in an exclusive statement.
Others being recognized for their contributions to Hip-Hop during the evening include Master P. who founded the groundbreaking No Limit Records imprint, as well as Atlanta production team Organized Noise.

Grace Jones on Lady Gaga
"I just don't play with other acts as a rule," she says, with rare discretion.
What does she think of her? "I really don't think of her at all. I go about my business."
Has she copied her? "Well, you know, I've seen some things she's worn that I've worn, and that does kind of piss me off."
Is she talented? "I wouldn't go to see her."
So, did she ask to play with her? "Yes, she did, but I said no. I'd just prefer to work with someone who is more original and someone who is not copying me, actually."

IS there a such thing as DOUBLE STANDARD
you be the judge:
"I was informed that 106 and Park, a source for African Americans to promote their music, have banned Teairra Mari's song Sponsor and other projects from surfacing on their channel. No one else will report because they don't want to put it on blast. I feel bad for the underdogs because they are not given a fair chance and its even worse when your own kind won't promote you. What's bad about Sponsor that overshadows any work that Lil Wayne, Ludacris, and many others have showcased on BET? Why is it, do you think, that booty shaking and such is allowed but a video by a woman encouraging others to make it is bad. Why is it that Lil Wayne can perform "Every Girl In the World" with his daughter on stage, but women artists have to be "appropriate". I understand if they would at least let Teairra come on the show to explain the concept behind the song. It just seems like a shady business where people who have made it have certain control over those that haven't
through shady connections."
Man when validity is present it is HARD to argue with it. I actually am a fan of the song and I dont think it sends the wrong message. Miss Marie never told anyone to go out and do anything, she just used her pen and voice to speak on a "situation" no different than Nas looking through his project window, or Cash Ruling Everything Around Me and Raekwon. Its awful that this is the case in music, and the world today. if something is Hot- PLAY IT regardless of who made it; If you're not gonna censor everyone, then censor no one. Thats my thoughts on it. And For the record that Lil Wayne performance with his daughter and her friends on stage was horrible and inappropriate. BET wont play her video, but we will. Hit it..........

I DONT LIKE THIS BUT YOU WILL
DID YOU KNOW.......
THE BEEF BETWEEN GINUWINE AND TIMBALAND IS DEEP ROOT.CHECK IT OUT FOR YOURSELF. GINUWINE INTERVIEW WITH VIBE MAGAZINE.
"He really hasn’t been interested in working with me, so I can’t speak on the present,” Ginuwine tells VIBE of Timbaland. “But back in the days, it spoke for itself as far as him being the most sought after producer. Music was boring until he came out with that new sound. Back then, I would have described it as futuristic because it was something that had not been done and people jumped on it. If it wasn’t for him making that style as hot as it is, a lot of producers that’s out now maybe wouldn’t even be here.” On Timbaland not supporting his latest album: “Me and Tim were real close at one point. A lot of the times that I reached out, there were a bunch of excuses,” explains Ginuwine. “I begged and pleaded with him because I felt a certain way but I was like, is it just a bad vibe that I’m picking up on? Maybe I’m bugging out, I don’t know. But it came out to be true and I still feel like he owes me an apology for that. The reason I’m pissed off at him now is because of what he did. I would’ve been cool and not bothered him if he would’ve said, ‘Nah, I’m too busy,’ or gave me the lame excuse like he’s been giving me. But don’t do it and then not do what you’re supposed to do [to promote the song].” On who wins the producer battle between Timb, Swizzy, J.D., and others: “I would have to go with Tim. I’m still a man. I’m not gonna not say the truth just ’cause I’m mad at you. [Laughs] He’s one of the best producers ever to me,” says Ginuwine. “Pharrell actually came up behind him. And the only reason I said Polow [in the first round], I’m looking at it on a level of what’s out now. But as a whole, there’s no one that can touch Timbaland.” On folks calling Timbaland a sell out since he works with Justin Timberlake and Nelly Furtado now: “I don’t know about the sold out thing. I think any smart businessman would go where the money is bigger, but I also feel like you don’t forget your roots either,” says Ginuwine. “You don’t alienate the people that helped you and started you out… What is it about me now that you just don’t like? And if it is something, say it. I can take truth. I can’t take that kind of stuff and right now I don’t really like him. I really don’t. That’s not being a man.”
